Brekkie

Breakfast with Mr. Moc at The Original Pancake House. I know it seems like a whole army could have eaten all that food but we were starving. It didn't help that we had to sit there for 1/2 hr. before we were seated. Of course by that time, we were starvin' like marvin'! --MM

gloria's

Today for dinner I met up with my friend "cupcakes" and decided to check out this el savadorian/mexican restaurant up the street from my place called gloria's. It was so good, omg! We ordered a combo plate and a Carnistas plate and shared it. The combo plate had Papusa - this salvadorian type quesedilla. Cupcakes was conversing with the waiter in spanish and from what I could understand of the very minimal spanish I know he said that it was a bigger, better version of the quesedilla. Boy was he right. The combo plate also had carnitas, fried plantains, fried yucutan and of course rice and beans. This is a picture of the carnitas (pork) was this whole dish of well, pork served with rice and beans and tortilla. I wish I could remember the names but it was SO GOOD! It's just down the street from my house and I have never been there, imagine what I have been missing! Anyways, this is a picture of the pork plate. Yum.

Pasta, again.

Whole wheat pasta with rotisserie chicken, spicy tomato olive sauce and fresh spinach. And of course, we can't forget the grated parmigiano-reggiano cheese! Made this at home with whatever I could find in the fridge. It was actually pretty tasty...not too heavy for summer. --MM

Copper River Salmon

Copper river salmon with vietnamese rice salad. The rice salad was made with brown rice, cucumbers, carrots and a vinaigrette dressing made with vietnamese fish sauce. The salmon was seasoned with salt & pepper, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and broiled.

For those of you who don't know, Copper River Salmon is only available about three to four weeks out of the year...usually from mid-May to mid-June. Normally, Mr. Moc and I eat the sushi version of this fish but this year we brought some home to make. Copper River Salmon is fattier, tastier and richer in flavor than regular salmon. Luckily the fatty salmon is good for us because of all the Omega-3 oils. --MM

my last meal

If I was ever asked what my last meal on earth would be, this would be an option that I would consider. California Pizza Kitchen. Spinach Artichoke Dip and a BBQ chicken salad (or a cpk club salad). (There are other options I would put in the contention but I won't mention them right now.) Last night I got lazy and went with roomie to the corner CPK ASAP that they just opened. I have been so excited about it and its been open for like 3 weeks and I just got to go. It's got a more expansive menu than most CPK ASAPs and there's a "dine in" option where you order and then they bring your food to you at your seat. The menu is missing some items like the CPK club salad and the pastas. But you can also order a family sized pizza. Anyways, I'm sure I will be making frequent visit there. I apologize if the pictures don't look appetizing but I can assure you it was! What would you have for your last meal?

Indian Take-out...NOT!

Not the greatest looking food or picture but it tasted decent enough. The korma sauce is from Trader Joe's - I just added some diced onions and chicken breast to the jar of simmer sauce. The baigan bharta was a homemade concoction - first time making it. Found a recipe online for my favorite Indian dish. I had to make a few adjustments to the recipe since I didn't have all the ingredients but I did have the necessity: eggplant! --MM

s'mores and gummy bears

Well, I havne't been very good at taking pictures of the food I eat. Anyways, yesterday we went to the beach to celebrate the cousins' bdays. We had a bonfire at night and made smores. I didn't actually eat any but "Ali G" made me so I felt bad not eating it, so I took a picture of it instead. We also had lots of gummy bears throughout the night. Just a couple of pictures to remind you of being a kid.

my name is homer

Last night newschick and I decided to make a late night krispy kreme stop. I haven't had a donut since I left NC so this was 10 months in the making. I had been craving a boston kreme forever. So, here are the donuts we got. I got a chocolate icing with custard aka boston kreme and then for breakfast i had chocolate cake donut that was way too sweet! The other two are newschick's donuts. Now I'm all set for another 10 months.

Soup

Not such a pretty picture but this mushroom soup from Fire was still very flavorful. --MM

Muscles?

No, mussels! Mr. Moc and I shared this bowl of mussels as our appetizer at a local restaurant called Fire. The broth in this dish was so delicious - a tomato cream based broth - that was perfect for dunking bread. --MM

the usual

My dinner tonight was leftovers from last night. But it was turkey spaghetti. It's a copy of MM's recipe. It's not very exciting but it's what I ate! =)

walt's wharf part II

Here is the dessert we had. The first is a chocolate lava cake (kind of thing) with vanilla creme. the other is a crem brulee with berries on top. DELICIOUS!

Ok - so i finally uploadede some pictures onto my computer. Here we goo....

My dinner at Walt's Wharf. Roomie took me, mr. clean and mr and ms H3 there for a congratulations on graduation and congratulation mr. clean on passing dinner. I had some hawaiin fish, don't remember the name, its like swordfish with mango sauce on top, garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. It was really good, although I don't care for fish in the swordfish family.

my angle of da fish

Sorry I have been a bad blogger lately. I guess I havne't really had anything interesting to eat. Probably because I've been sick. Anyways, here is the picture of the salmon and risotto Mocmoc made. it looks the same....

The Jackie Byrd Special

Since I'm going out of town again next week, I posted 2 shots today. Otherwise I will never catch up. My friend, Super-Freak, taught me this simple pasta salad which she calls the "Jackie Byrd Special". Fusilli pasta with diced cucumbers, carrots, avocados, cherry tomatoes, shredded rotisserie/roast chicken tossed with a zesty vinaigrette. To make it a bit healthier, my version has whole wheat fusilli pasta and a homemade vinaigrette dressing. --MM

Chowda'

I have to admit that this picture doesn't look so good however the chowder itself tasted great. Corn and shrimp with coconut milk chowder. --MM

my thesis

I am trying to get my thesis done for this summer but I need 200 respondents for my survey. If you have time, please help me!!! It will only take 10 minutes. It's on the NBA but you don't have to know anything about it. Anyways, I will be forever grateful!!

Bolognese

Finally catching up with my food shots. I made this linguine with bolognese dish a few days after I got home from my CA trip. This is a little different from my usual spaghetti sauce. I made this with ground beef, tomatoes, herbs and spices and milk. Both Mr. Moc and I thought it was pretty tasty. --MM

Edit: Here's a link to a simple bolognese recipe. It's not the exact recipe that I used but it should give you a good idea on how to make bolognese.

Last Supper

Since Rocketdog seems to missing in action, I've posted this shot in her honor. I made this wild mushroom risotto with peas and grilled salmon for Rocketdog on my last day in town. The risotto turned out pretty yummy, if I do say so myself, but the salmon wasn't so fresh. :( --MM

Rocketdog: I think you might have a shot of this dish. You should post it too. Be cool to see your perspective. :)

Sushi!

Sushi from lunch with Rocketdog at Sushi Ota (San Diego). Although it was okay, I have to admit that dinner the night before at Sushi Ota with the "Terminator" and "Short Round " was amazing. The sushi was so fresh...each piece melted in my mouth. Later, I found out from "Lady M" that they save the best pieces for dinner and bring out the not-so-fresh pieces for lunch. Rat Bastards! --MM

Seaweed

Seaweed salad from Sushi Ota in San Diego. RocketDog couldn't wait for me to finish taking the picture before digging in. --MM

Ramen-style

This is how I like my ramen from Shinsengumi...medium hardness, strong broth flavor and little oil with spinach and corn toppings in addition to the pork slices. I don't get extra noodles but the last time we were there, Mr. Moc got 2 additional servings of noodles!! --MM

Fried Rice

Yummy japanese style fried rice from Shinsengumi. --MM

Chicken on Rice

This was our friend, 004's, dish...some kind of ground chicken on rice from Shinsengumi...sorry, can't remember exactly what's in it nor do I remember the name of the dish. --MM

Edit: See Jill's comment...for dish name and ingredients. Thanks, Jill!

Spam Musabi

Oh yum! Spam in a roll from Shinsengumi. 'Nuff said. --MM

Taiwanese Shaved Ice

This is the chinese version of "pot-bing-su"...shaved ice. Mr. Moc and I had this while in Vegas where it was 105 degrees. Best thing to eat when it's so hot out that you can feel your skin pickling from the heat! --MM

Oui oui, Monsieur!

My ham and cheese crepe from the Crepe place in the Paris Casino (Las Vegas). Mr. Moc and I took his parents (aka the in-laws) to Vegas on a spontaneous mid-week trip. This was their first time having french-style crepes and they loved it. We ordered 4 different types...I think my ham and cheese was the best. I know, Rocketdog would cringe at the word "ham" but it really wasn't that bad!! --MM

Mother's Day Dinner

Rocketdog, Mr. Moc and I took Mom and Dad to this little Korean restaurant in LA's K-town...sorry, I have no idea what the name of the place is. This is one Korean place where all the Korean waitresses are really nice and they gladly refilled all our pan-chan dishes. Even the Mexican valet guy is really nice...got the cutest smile! RocketDog and I like to go here because they give us these rice-noodle wraps that you wrap up with big radish slices and the bbq meat. Yummy! Pictured here are some of the pan-chan (small dishes) that came with our korean bbq dinner...there's actually more dishes that are not pictured. --MM

Ice Kiss

Dessert after korean bbq with the family was a big bowl of pot bing su from Ice Kiss in LA's Koreatown. Basically it's shaved ice with fruit cocktail, ice cream and fruity pebbles sprinkled on top served in a metal dog bowl. I know, sounds quite bizarre but knock it til you try it! --MM

Bucatini

Again, here's a dish from another dinner with my friend, G, except this time, we went out to dinner, along with our friend, P. I can't remember the name of the restaurant - I'll have to get that from B later. The pasta pictured here is bucatini (hollow spaghetti) with smashed fava beans and pancetta. Yum! --MM

Homemade

My friend, G, made dinner for me when I was in town (SF). For dinner, he made two different types of homemade ravioli: sweet potato ravioli with browned butter and sage sauce and a pancetta and mushroom ravioli with a tomato cream sauce. Both were delicious! Pictured here is the salad course...shaved fennel, artichoke and parmesan.

G taught me how to make homemade pasta. I can't wait to make my own pasta...just need to get a pasta roller first. --MM

Dogs

No, not that kind of dog. I'm talking about hot dogs from Top Dog. My friend, G, took me to this place in Berkeley where there were about 10 or more different types of hotdogs. Pictured here is the calabrese...all pork with paprika, chili and fennel. The dog itself is rated as semi-hot but I added a very hot mustard to it that burned my tongue. --MM

Unagi

Sushi from Sushi Wasabi in Tustin, CA. You can only order this "omakase" style which is the "trust me" style. The sushi chef serves you what's fresh for the day like a set menu. You eat and eat until you're full. The sushi is fresh and yummy although sometimes the sushi chef gets a little over-zealous with the ponzu sauce. I'm not complaining though...still WAY better than what we get here in Cleveland! --MM

Kimchee Bokembap

Since I'm behind on my daily blog of "everything I ate", I'm going to double-up on my posts. I made this kim-chee fried rice topped with fried egg the second night after I got back home. --MM

Huevos Rancheros

Alright after a long break, we're back! I have a lot of catching up to do so for now, I'll just post food pix from my recent trip to CA. Pictured here is my breakfast from Bread & Porridge in Santa Monica. --MM

one of my favorites

While I was in San Diego with MM, we went to one of my favorite places in pacific beach. Cafe 976. My friend introduced me to the place not too long ago. I had my favorite - spinach burger burrito. It's this spinach burger patty with alfalfa sprouts, um and a whole bunch of other stuff. but it's so yummy and healthy! Anyways, here is a picture....
